The turf-cutting ceremony to mark the revamp of Aberdeen's Duthie Park took place this afternoon.

Lord Provost, Peter Steven, was joined by pupils from Ferryhill Primary who helped in the ceremony.

The £5.2million project was partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and work is due to be complete in December.

Ailee Malone, convenor for housing and environment for Aberdeen City Council, noted that the situation of the Duthie Park was of a different nature than the Union Terrace Gardens project:

“Union Terrace Gardens came to be through generous funding from a local business person. The issue with UTG was raising it to make it accessible for disabled people and prams, but this park is accessible to all.”

Provost Stephen said: “There’s so many improvements going on in the city, and this another major one. This park has always been popular. A lot of things happen here and it was becoming a bit tired.”

“I’m delighted to see work getting underway and particularly to be finished by December this year.”
